The Gyeongju National Museum is a representative museum in Korea that offers a glimpse into Silla's cultural heritage. Here, you can explore the condensed history of Silla, a thousand-year-old kingdom that lasted from 57 BC to 935 AD. When traveling to Gyeongju, the first thing you visit to accumulate prior knowledge and then visit the historical sites will make your trip even more fulfilling. The museum consists of five permanent and special exhibition halls: the Silla History Museum, the Silla Museum of Art, the Wolji Hall, the Silla Millennium Report, and the outdoor exhibition. The Silla History Museum offers a glimpse of Silla s historical flow, while the Silla Museum of Art offers a glimpse of art culture and artifacts. The Wolji Hall is centered on the life culture of the royal family during the Unified Silla period. The outdoor exhibition hall displays more than 1,300 stone artifacts such as bells, stone pagodas, stone Buddhas, stone lanterns, and stone bases. Near the museum is the Silla Millennium Report, a collection in the Yeongnam area, which opened in 2019. It stores about 600,000 artifacts excavated from the Yeongnam region, and about 3,000 items can be viewed in the exhibition storage. The Silla History Museum, Shilla Museum of Art, and Wolji Museum also offer exhibition commentary programs, so it is recommended to check the timetable before visiting.
